HANDS DOWN (Shoot Good Films) 2017 Toronto Fringe Review

When five strangers are huddled around a car for 100 hours, things are bound to get a little weird. In HANDS DOWN by Shoot Good Films at the Toronto Fringe Festival, things get very weird.

HANDS DOWN is written by Warren P. Sonoda, an experienced television comedy director with credits like Trailer Park Boys and This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Going into this show, I was excited to see how someone with a high-caliber, albeit slightly different, professional background would tackle the Fringe Festival as writer and director.

Lysistrata (how.dare.collective.) 2017 Toronto Fringe Review

Burlesque, Greek Theatre, and Resistance collide in how.dare.collective’s adaptation of Lysistrata, performing as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival. First written and performed in ancient Athens by playwright Aristophanes, it is commonly found on the required reading list for most theatre undergrads. This production, however, is anything but a snoozer.

When James and Oliver get themselves kicked out of medical school, they decide to start robbing graves in a madcap scheme to buy their way back in. Just your classic 19th Century buddy comedy. Really. Complete with a gun-toting maniac, unrequited love, and a cadaver that can’t manage to stay dead. That’s the basic setup of The Resurrectionists (House of Rebels Theatre), playing at the 2017 Toronto Fringe Festival.
