It’s been years since I went to a poetry reading. Tonight I went to the Griffin Poetry Prize Readings. Elaine, who came with me, had never been to one.
I can’t even remember where I read about the Griffin Prize or about the readings by the poets shortlisted for the awards but I remember thinking that it really wouldn’t be that different than a playwright reading a play. A performance.
The Board of Directors of Cahoots Theatre Projects is pleased to announce that Nina Lee Aquino has been appointed as Artistic Director effective September 8, 2009. Board President Colette Johnson-Vosberg says, "We are ecstatic to have Nina take over the reins. She is someone who can build on Cahoots’ successes, and has the vision to take us to new and exciting places."
So, having a baby rocks! Really. I love it. But it has elements I don’t like, for instance, the fact that I don’t get to see nearly as much theatre as I’d like to.
In light of that, I figured I’d let you know what I’m sad to be missing out on this weekend.
Eternal Hydra now playing at Buddies In Bad Times, written by Anton Piatigorsky and directed by Chris Abraham, is a slow-paced, bookish experience, which is to be fully expected from a play whose main character is, essentially, a book.
So, yesterday saw the 2009 version of the Harold Awards. It’s the place where independent theatre folks get recognized in a light-hearted, but heart-warming way.
Winning comes with a price – the current winners plan next year’s Harolds and choose the winners, but it’s a pretty fun price.
