Game 7 by MWB Productions at 2016’s Toronto Fringe Festival is a play about miserable people. It’s also about fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs, which is pretty much the same thing (badump bump).
Written and performed by Mark Kalzer, Raymond Ho and Magdalena BB it chronicles the events that transpire between three friends as they watch the legendary collapse of the Leafs in their 2013 Playoff run. The play explores many themes like missed opportunities, failed dreams and abandonment while also exploring the ecstasy and agony of being a sports fan.
Tuck & Daisy, by T&D Productions, is playing at Toronto Fringe Festival as part of FringeKids. Daisy (Adriana Crivici) is a rose, immobilized in her flower pot but strong in voice. Tuck (Greg Rola) is a clown who does not talk at all but dances almost constantly. They are visited by their neighbours, Pam the Pig (Karleena Kelly) who suffers from amnesia, and Hemingway the Spider (Jordi O’Dael) who quotes philosophy.
No two performances of Shed Talks will be the same. The audience is treated to a variety of spoken word performances determined by a Wheel-of-Fortune-style spinner. So sure, I can review this play. But keep in mind I saw only a fraction of this show’s potential options.
