She truly loves seeing innovative indie theatre, the strange sort of hole-in-the-wall shows that big companies would never take a risk on. She’s seen plays in basements, gardens, bars, and in old dilapidated houses, to name a few. She’s always on the lookout for the next theatrical experiment in the city, and loves seeing shows that have some quality of fantasy, historicity, or strangeness to them – especially if they involve puppets! D&D Live – Toronto Fringe 2018 Press Release

From Press Release:

Join a party of award-winning comedians in this improvised love letter to the world’s most popular roleplaying game. Set in the Realm of T’Rannah, a fantasy Toronto featuring such familiar landmarks as “The Sky Dome” and “Fort Ork,” our heroes will have to tackle dangers like the Tomb of Eton or a fire-spitting Drake! Audience members will be called upon to take up the twenty-sided Die of Power and roll to determine the successes (or critical failures) of our intrepid adventurers.

Sex T-Rex’s D&D Live! has been running since 2012, and has seen sold-out houses at Bad Dog Theatre every month over the past year. Buoyed by references in such popular media as Stranger Things, Adventure Time and Community, Dungeons and Dragons is gaining a whole new generation of players and may be more popular today than ever before. D&D Live! is unscripted adventure comedy at its finest, and a delight for both the uninitiated and epic-level nerds.

Featuring Conor Bradbury, Julian Frid, Liz Johnston, Ted Hambly, Stephanie Malek, Kaitlin Morrow, Seann Murray, Sean Tabares and Chris Wilson (Second City Toronto mainstage); plus new additions to the D&D Live! cast: Kyah Green (Kinsey Fail, Bad Dog Theatre), Isabel Kanaan (CBC’s Air Farce, NBC Universal Bob Curry Fellowship, Factory Theatre’s Prairie Nurse) and more!

The Merkin Sisters – Toronto Fringe 2018 Press Release

From Press Release:

Victoria, BC. The Merkin Sisters is a no-holds-barred physical comedy about a strangely hilarious sibling rivalry: two fallen socialites endeavour to create the Ultimate Piece of Art, using any means necessary. A mash-up of uncensored comedy, theatre, dance and puppetry, The Merkin Sisters may just be the most outrageous show to hit Victoria, coming One-Night-Only to the Metro Studio Theatre on Wednesday December 13th.

As a new creative duo, The Merkin Sisters is created and performed by multi-award winning puppeteer Ingrid Hansen and critically acclaimed choreographer and storyteller Stéphanie Morin-Robert. Their duo show The Merkin Sisters is what they call “a vivacious romp sending up our inner caveman and our ultra-queens, smothered with the unique flavour of absurdity that comes from siblings surviving childhood together.”

Hansen is known to Victoria audiences for her work with SNAFU, including cult-hit shows Little Orange Man, Kitt & Jane: An Interactive Survival Guide to the Near-Post-Apocalyptic Future, and, most recently, the sci-fi trip Interstellar Elder about a renegade grandma in space. Morin-Robert is a Victoria Fringe favourite with her sold-out show Bushel and Peck. Touring extensively since 2010, Hansen and Morin-Robert have collectively performed over 400 shows across Canada, Europe, Japan and the United States. Together they have accumulated a wealth of Best-of-Fest, Best Comedy, Best Physical Theatre, Best English Theatre, Best Choreography, Best Clown awards and multiple 5-Star reviews.

The Grass Is Greenest at the Houston Astrodome – Toronto Fringe 2018 Press Release

From Press Release:

High Park Productions is proud to present The Grass is  Greenest at the Houston Astrodome, a comedy by Michael Ross Albert, directed by Robert Motum, at The Freedom Factory, July 4 – 15, 2018, at the Toronto Fringe Festival.

After premiering at the New York International Fringe Festival, this critically acclaimed play written by Dora Award nominated playwright Michael Ross Albert (Tough JewsMiss) gets its Canadian debut—fittingly in the heart of Queen West. A site-specific production set in an art gallery, , The Grass is Greenest at the Houston Astrodome is a comedy about envy, friendship, sex, art, three square-feet of AstroTurf, and the constant search for something better.

When a painter tears the artwork off the walls of a struggling independent gallery, the relationships between a group of emerging artists are also torn apart. In the chaotic aftermath that ensues, the underachieving artists grapple with their insecurities, infidelities, and their innate jealousy of one another.

Prolific playwright Michael Ross Albert’s works have been performed around the world, racking up award nominations and wins for his sharp dialogue, gripping characters, and insightful take on universal themes. Along withThe Grass is Greenest at the Houston Astrodome, Michael’s newest play, Anywhere, will also be performed this summer at the Toronto Fringe Festival.

The Canadian premiere production will be directed by Robert Motum (King Charles III, Studio 180). Motum’s play A Community Target is currently in development with Outside the March and Why Not Theatre. The project has been featured in Macleans, the Toronto Star, on CBC As It Happens, Metro, BlogTO, and internationally in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The multi-talented and uniquely experienced cast of The Grass is Greenest at the Houston Astrodome is comprised of Adrian Rebucas (Man Seeking Woman, Workin’ Moms), Anne van Leeuwen (Tough Jews, The Chance), Lauren MacKinlay (Of Mice and Men, Murdoch Mysteries), Carson Pinch (Carson Saves Sketchfest, Sunday Night Live) and Richard Young (The History of Love, Kim’s Convenience).

Flooded: A Show And Sail Around The Toronto Islands – Toronto Fringe 2018 Press Release

TORONTO, ON  – For eleven evenings in July, as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival’s site-specific category, we’ll embark on an hour-long performance/sail around the Toronto Islands.  It’s contemporary performance. It’s an intimate summer boat cruise. And, it’s all for only $12. Where else can you have a summer sail for only $12???
